What is the PTC1194?
The PTC-1194 is a Telxon Corporation laptop manufactured around 1997.
It features a Pentium 133 CPU, a minimum of 32MB of RAM, a CT65554 based graphics system with 1MB of RAM (capible of 800x600 @ 8bpp), Colour LCD, and a Touchscreen. It also has support for an optional internal modem and wireless network adapter.
About 10 months ago, I acquired a Telxon PTC-1194 second-hand via a friend who had contacts with a supplier in Sydney who had a number of them.
My unit, which I named rei, featured 80MB of RAM, and a 2 1/2" shock mounted 2GB harddrive, but lacked the optional modem and Wireless network adapters.
Since acquiring last year, my goal has been to build a functional linux environment the laptop to replace the Windows 95 (with Pen Services) installation that the laptop ships with standard.
After contacting Symbol Technologies on a number of occasions, it became apparent that they had no desire to offer any real assistance with providing documentation for any of the hardware interfaces in the unit without charging me a disturbing amount of money.
